While Rob mentioned a bit of what could be delaying the release of Bel Ami during his interview with MTV, he went into details when he talked to Total Film:
"We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a shit who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it"
You can read the rest, including how Rob felt about playing "a shit" over at Total Film. indieWIRE suggests producers may have to go the festival route to market Bel Ami:
Buzz around the pic has been quiet but maybe producers will trot it out to the festival circuit in the fall to see how it plays before deciding how to get it out there? We’ll have to see how it all plays out, but that’s what we’d do.
We'll keep you posted!
Thanks to WFEFilm for the indieWIRE tip.

A new article in The Independent, sheds light on a little company in Scotland that has turned its unique lace making ability into a profitable business with a link to Bel Ami:
It is not the first time that the firm, founded more than a century ago, has achieved celluloid fame. Its lace wallpaper was featured in Sex And The City 2 and it has also provided fabrics for two Harry Potter films, Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland and the forthcoming Bel Ami starring Uma Thurman.
As to where in the film the intricate lace work was used remains to be seen, but spotting it will be a fun little task now that we know its interesting background.
You can learn more about Morton Young & Borland Textiles Group at their site.

"It's so funny because he's really not a bad boy. He's just a great guy and he looks very different in our film"
"Robert Pattinson's character comes in and he's a vet and we end up being very interested in each other. It's very romantic and beautiful."Read the rest.
Reese also talks about working with Rosie. You can read more on that here.
The film is now listed on the Optimum Releasing Autumn calendar. Last official word was that the UK was getting a premiere in August. More details as we get them!

Francis Lawrence tweeted the post-production update, while answering a question from a fan site.
What can we say.. we can't wait to see the finished product!
While we knew Water for Elephants reshoots were on the way, we weren't sure whether Rob was going to be part of them. But our source (who will hopefully have a full report later) did confirm Rob is on set right now, and gave us a few more details to share:
Here are Kelli's exclusive pictures of Rob on set today - and just a bit of her account:
Kelli tells us that after finishing that scene, the cast and crew went inside the circus tent to presumably shoot a scene with Rosie.
If you repost please credit @gkngc04.
After carefully looking at the first set of pictures, @WFEFilm commented that she thought the scenes being shot were post Marlena and Jacob leaving the Benzini Brothers circus.. and guess what, she was right!
(Updated HQ and untagged versions of the pictures below here)
Words cannot describe how excited we are to see this movie. April 22nd get here already!

"They just finished a scene where he carries her (Reese) through the mud on his back...setting up for a new scene now."
"Tai is here now.....Go Rosie!!!"
Here are Kelli's exclusive pictures of Rob on set today - and just a bit of her account:
I had heard that Rob wasn't supposed to be apart of them. But OH MY GOSH, he was there and so was Reese and Tai! I will savor this memory forever and ever! They were filming a scene in which Jacob carries a umbrella carrying Marlena on his back through the mud. Over and over again. She is dressed in a cream colored circus costume with lots of sequins and feathers. He is wearing the beloved high boots, suspenders, brown pants, whitish shirt and a red striped tie. Dean (Rob's bodyguard) was there too.

UPDATE 1/12: What's playing claims to have more details on what's being re-shot:
The reshoots reportedly involve Queenie, but not necessarily Rob. Read the rest.
Director Francis Lawrence later confirmed the news on twitter, promising a surprise!
Finally, Moviehole found out who they were casting for these reshoots. Check out the details over at their site.
*Previous post below
Emily Gregorio was lucky enough to be cast as an extra on Water for Elephants. She tells waterforelephantsfilm.com that there's more reshoots planned.
Perhaps that's why we haven't heard from director Francis Lawrence in a while. With all the buzz surrounding his project.. must be busy, busy, busy!
What we don't know, is whether Rob will be part of the reshoots. It could certainly be a possibility since he will be in LA for the Golden Globes Sunday. And with production moving to Vancouver soon.. ;)
We'll update you as we learn more!

One told me, “I’m being told that director Francis Lawrence has been asked to reshoot some of the movie - someone wants the film, which is a very stylistic almost jigsaw-puzzle of a film, to appeal to a broader audience than what it will in it’s current form (read : more commercial). That doesn’t mean it’s a poor film, in fact I could be a brilliant piece, it’s just a studio making sure they get the most bums on seats possible.”

It's been such an exciting week, with the release of the Water for Elephants trailer. And thanks to WFEFilm, we learned what music was used in the new clip. It's from the soundtrack of The Assassination of Jesse James, which Rob mentioned in an interview with HitFix after he couldn't go through with the audition.
Now check out the Water for Elephants version, we think it fits better here ;)
20th Century Fox is also now featuring the logo for the film on its main site, there's a slot for an upcoming official Water for Elephants site. Can't wait!
The film has so many gorgeous details and dramatic scenes (like the one below), but also heart-stopping moments as TheFABLife pointed out. Check them all out at their site. You won't be disappointed.
Screencaps via RPLife.
But there are some challenges to overcome according to the writer. Read the rest at Dark Horizons. Summer/early Fall release in the US?.. we'll take it!
More exciting is the cast with the brilliant Thomas, Thurman and Ricci ably supporting Pattinson who seems a better fit for this kind of material than some of his other projects. He's also joined by some under appreciated great British male talent like Philip Glenister ("Life on Mars," "Ashes to Ashes"), James Lance ("Absolute Power," "No Heroics") and Colm Meaney ("Star Trek: DS9," "The Commitments"). Set photos show off some exquisite looking costume design, but no footage is yet out and a release date isn't locked. At last report it'll be hitting the UK in August which means a likely late Summer/early Fall release in the States

The where and when have been answered!
Last week director Francis Lawrence and 20th Century Fox let fans know that the Water for Elephants trailer was on its way. Today the word is out that you'll be able to watch it ahead of Reese Witherspoon's new movie How Do You Know which opens Friday!

While we can't wait to see Uma Thurman play Rob's lover in Bel Ami, it's a different story for Thurman's daughter. Thurman mentioned a conversation between the two, while at the Abu Dhabi film festival last week:
Thurman's acting, however, has certainly gained her daughter's curiosity, especially when she's starring alongside some of Hollywood's up-and-coming young heartthrobs such as Twilight enigma Robert Pattinson and Michael Angarano. There is much speculation about when and where Bel Ami will have its world premiere, but no official word as of yet. We'll keep you posted!
"She asked me: ‘Why are you acting in movies with these young boys' and I replied: ‘Honey, at least I don't do it in real life'! My daughter met Robert [Pattinson] but she was so blasé about it," Thurman said.

Blackbookmag.com got a chance to chat with Christina Ricci, who mentioned how she got a taste of Rob's fandom while filming Bel Ami.
Thanks to @Rob_Tyler_RM for the tip!

Ricci has shared screen time with Hollywood heartthrobs her entire life—Depp (on three separate occasions), Justin Timberlake, and Orlando Bloom—but the collective scream reached fever pitch earlier this year when she filmed Bel Ami, an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s story of corruption and social climbing, with Twilight superstar Robert Pattinson. Featuring a stacked deck of formidable actors, including Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas, Bel Ami tells the story of George Duroy, a scheming, power-hungry womanizer brought to life by Pattinson. Ricci plays Clotilde de Marelle, one of Duroy’s many conquests. “I read the book when I was 13,” she says. “It was one of my tutor’s favorite stories, so there was a lot of discussion about it my entire life. Getting the part was one of those things that made me sort of believe in…” Realizing she’s stumbled dangerously close to earnest territory, she cuts herself short, and then, with a slight eye roll, says, “Well, fate. But, yeah, Rob’s fans are crazy. We filmed in London, and they were always around base camp, gathered at the barriers.”Read the rest of the interview at Blackbookmag.com. where they also have some gorgeous pictures of her. Can't wait to see what she did with the role of Clotilde.

Entertainment Weekly recently asked readers to submit questions for Sara Gruen, and among them was a very revealing one:
We’ve heard that there are some pretty major plot changes in the Water for Elephants movie. Did Ms. Gruen have any say in them?Plot changes.. plot changes?!! fans on twitter like @Tiggeramaone, seemed to think the comment referred to the character known as Uncle Al in the book:
Writing a screenplay is a very different skill than writing novels and is not one I pretend to possess. Richard LaGravenese took something that takes 12 to 14 hours to read and condensed it into something that can be viewed in
two hours and still remain true to the story. My hat’s off to him.
I imagine the "pretty major plot change" is condensing the characters uncle Al and August into just Uncle August.
Hmm.. it could be, but when we looked up the exact definition of "plot" this is what we got:
The pattern of events or main story in a narrative or drama.
So EW asked about "pretty major changes" to the pattern of events or main story in a narrative or drama, and Gruen did not say that wasn't the case. Guess we'll just have to wait and see on April 15th..
belamifilm.com has confirmed with Protagonist Pictures that the movie that's now in post-production will be screening at film festivals, but the company did not give any more specifics. News on Bel Ami has been hard to come by, but Protagonist did share some information with the site. Read the rest.
